From farmland dating back to the Middle Ages to derelict areas left over from the town's 20th-century industrial past, the Docks district of Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine is evolving, becoming denser and getting a complete makeover. Located on the former Saint-Ouen canal, in the immediate vicinity of the Seine and the new park, the M9 plot is home to lifescience laboratories. With the prospect of the new eco-neighbourhood of the ZAC des Docks, the project is exemplary in terms of environmental requirements.
We aim to create an architecture that respects the site, is consistent with the urban development of the ZAC and conveys a contemporary image of science. In fact, the proposed project is sequenced into three volumes in order to reduce the perception of compactness, to extend the public space within the plot, and to multiply the islands of freshness and ecosystems in the neighbourhood.
The facades also contribute to the dialogue between the project and its immediate surroundings through a kinetic composition. This project aims to introduce evolving architecture that can be adapted to different uses, while at the same time defining itself through a high-performance envelope and durable materials.
