At the Rhodia, the new restaurant at the Bourdelle museum in Paris, two family-style tables take pride of place at the heart of the space, occupying a central position both physically and symbolically. These unique pieces, designed by the SAME studio, are far more than items of furniture only: they are the result of a cross-disciplinary exploration of art, craftsmanship and the memory of the place.
The bases of these tables, modeled using a traditional method by ceramist Cyril Dennery, play with the clay material to become an organic support for oak table tops. Their design, blending traditional technique with an innovative approach, gives them an organic, almost living appearance. Ceramics, a raw and malleable material, evokes the sculptures of Antoine Bourdelle and pay homage to the sculptor’s work.
The family-style tables combine Cyril Dennery’s artisanal technique with a contemporary aesthetic, and blend harmoniously into the centre of the space. Through their size and arrangement, they encourage conviviality and sharing, reflecting the spirit of the Rhodia. They become defining features of the room, around which guests can gather, converse and celebrate the French art of living.
